Former Nigerian President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has advised the Olubadan of Ibadanland, not to let politics interfere with his royal throne.
Obasanjo, who gave the advice during a courtesy visit to the palace, said traditional rulers hold an important place in Nigerian society and must remain neutral to maintain peace and unity.
He noted that politicians come and go, but the throne remains for generations, so it is important for monarchs to avoid being dragged into political battles. According to him, the respect and influence of the traditional institution depend on the ruler’s ability to stand above politics.
The former president urged the Olubadan to continue being a father to all, irrespective of political differences, and prayed for wisdom and strength in leading his people.
