Popular Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, has shut down rumors that she deliberately leaked her sex tape just to gain attention.

Her private video surfaced online in 2021 after she refused to give in to a blackmailer who threatened her. The incident drew massive reactions across social media, with many blaming her for not paying the extortion money.

Speaking in a recent interview with Hot 97, an American radio station, Tiwa Savage opened up about the pain and emotional struggles she went through after the video went viral.

She explained that a lot of people mocked her instead of seeing her as the victim. Some even suggested she shared the video herself for publicity.

In her words: “I was bashed for my sex video. People thought I was just trying to get sympathy. Even people with platforms were harsh and blamed me. They said I did it to be relevant. But if I really wanted that, I would have done it differently — with better lighting, nice lingerie, and with facial expressions on point.”

Tiwa Savage’s statement clears the air that she never leaked the video herself and that it was one of the toughest moments of her career.
