Former Vice President and PDP presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Atiku Abubakar, has paid a solidarity visit to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai. The visit comes shortly after El-Rufai was allegedly attacked by thugs during the inauguration of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kaduna.
Atiku condemned the incident, describing it as an attack on democracy. He accused the Tinubu-led APC government of encouraging dictatorship and warned that such actions pose the greatest risk to Nigeria’s democratic journey since 1999. According to him, violence against opposition voices is a dangerous path that could destabilize the nation.
During the visit, Atiku expressed his support for El-Rufai and emphasized the importance of protecting political freedom and tolerance. He urged Nigerians to remain vigilant and to defend democratic values against any attempt to silence opposition voices.
The meeting between Atiku and El-Rufai has sparked widespread discussion, with many Nigerians interpreting it as a possible political alignment ahead of future elections. Both men, though from different political backgrounds, appear united in their concerns over the current state of the nation’s democracy.
