Traffic was brought to a halt on the busy Makurdi–Abuja highway on Saturday as villagers from Achakpa community in Agan, Makurdi LGA of Benue State, staged a protest against killings by suspected armed herdsmen.
The angry villagers blocked the road after the early morning attack of September 20, 2025, which happened on the outskirts of Achakpa community along the North Bank–Lafia road. The attack claimed the lives of a man, Tor Felafa, his son, and Mr. Francis Kulegwa, a senior choir master at Daudu Mission in the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi.
Reports said that several others were abducted while many escaped with injuries, and some persons remain missing.
Eyewitnesses explained that the victims were ambushed on their farms after the attackers allegedly monitored farming activities in the area before striking.
During the protest, villagers blocked the Garba–Atson–Abagena IDP camp stretch of the highway. They carried placards and tree branches while chanting songs, insisting that they would not leave the road until the government takes action and justice is served.
