Nigerians And Others Deported By US To Ghana Sue Over Detention

A group of West Africans recently deported from the United States has taken legal action against the Ghanaian government. They claim they were forced into Ghana even though they had protection orders from US immigration officials.

The case, which was filed in a Ghanaian court, involves 11 people from Nigeria, Togo, Gambia, Liberia, and Mali. According to the plaintiffs, they have been kept in detention since they landed, without any charges and with very limited or no access to lawyers.

This legal move follows President John Mahama’s recent statement confirming that Ghana agreed with the US government to accept deportees from different West African countries. This comes as President Donald Trump pushes harder on deportations, with reports showing that some deportees are even being sent to prisons in other countries, such as El Salvador.
