Shooter de@d, two students critically injured as student opens fire on peers at Denver high school

A tragic incident unfolded on Wednesday, September 10, when a student at Evergreen High School in suburban Denver shot two classmates before turning the gun on himself. Authorities later confirmed that the shooter had died from his injuries.

The shooting was reported just after 12:30 p.m. at the school, which sits about 30 miles west of Denver in the Rocky Mountain foothills.

Gunfire broke out both inside and outside the school, causing chaos as students and staff rushed to safety.

Police officers arrived within five minutes of the first emergency calls and quickly found the shooter.

According to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Jacki Kelley, no officers fired their weapons during the response.

More than 100 law enforcement officers from surrounding areas raced to the scene to secure the school and help students.

Two teenagers were rushed to St. Anthony Hospital in critical condition, hospital CEO Kevin Cullinan confirmed. Their ages were not released.

By evening, doctors said one of the victims was stable with non-life-threatening injuries, while the other remained in critical care.

As news of the shooting spread, worried parents gathered outside a nearby elementary school, waiting anxiously to be reunited with their children. In the midst of the panic, eighteen students who escaped the attack found shelter in a nearby home.

Resident Don Cygan told local station KUSA-TV that the frightened teens had pounded on his door asking for help.

Cygan, a retired educator familiar with lockdown training, wrote down the names of the students and their parents so families could reconnect.

His wife, a retired nurse, comforted the shaken teens and provided care for shock until their parents arrived.
