Three men from Nigeria have been sentenced to a total of 96 years in prison for stealing cars in Kumasi, Ghana.
The Ashanti Regional Police spokesperson, Godwin Ahianyo, confirmed the convictions in a statement released on Tuesday, September 9, 2025.
The convicts, identified as Francis Friday, Linus Agwazie, and Russell Ekenze, were arrested on June 20, 2025, and later brought before different circuit courts in Kumasi.
During his first court appearance at Atasemanso Circuit Court, Ekenze admitted to the crime and was given a 10-year jail term with hard labour.
Friday and Agwazie at first denied the charges, but after trial at Circuit Court 3, they were both found guilty and sentenced to eight years each on two counts, with the terms running at the same time.
Later, all three appeared at Circuit Court 1, where they received an extra 20-year jail term each, also running concurrently. Ekenze faced Circuit Court 2 again and was handed another 10-year concurrent sentence.
The three Nigerians are now serving their punishments at Kumasi Central Prison.
Police said the jail terms show their strong resolve to fight organised and cross-border crime.
They also encouraged citizens to help prevent crime by reporting suspicious activities quickly.
