Nigeria is bleeding, declare state of emergency now – Peter Obi

Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has raised deep concerns about the worsening security crisis in Nigeria.

On Sunday, he wrote on his official X account that Nigeria is “bleeding” and called on the federal government to immediately declare a state of emergency to confront insecurity.

His statement followed a violent weekend in which eight officials of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) were killed in Edo State, while five soldiers and at least 58 civilians lost their lives in Borno State.

Obi, who once served as governor of Anambra State, said the killings are clear evidence that the nation is facing a major security breakdown.

He also offered condolences to the families of the victims and urged the government to quickly track down those responsible and bring them to justice.

According to Obi, when more than 100 Nigerians die in a single weekend, the country’s death toll begins to mirror that of nations already at war. He stressed that this can no longer be treated as normal.

He called for an urgent national response, saying every resource, agency, and state must be mobilized. Obi added that distractions should be set aside while the country focuses on defeating insecurity and restoring peace.
