“I only had N50,000 when my wife suggested we get married” Former Uber driver who lost his sight following bandit attack hails wife

A Nigerian man who lost his sight after being attacked by armed bandits while driving Uber has shared his touching story. He praised his wife for standing by him and even suggesting marriage when life seemed hopeless.

He explained that he became blind at the age of 27 after one of the attackers shot him in the face.

The injury damaged both of his eyes, leaving him depressed and with little money left. Most of what he had was already spent on hospital bills.

At that point, the only money in his account was N50,000. It was then that his girlfriend surprised him by saying they should get married.

He admitted he was shocked because the only kind of wedding he could afford was a small one inside a sitting room, but he promised her that one day he would give her a bigger celebration.

He recalled how his girlfriend encouraged him, telling him not to worry and that they would grow together with God on their side. He eventually proposed to her, and a year after losing his sight, they went ahead with marriage.

Their wedding was very simple—just a sitting room ceremony with close family members. They also did the traditional and court weddings without any big party or decorations.

He made a promise to his wife that on their 10th wedding anniversary, he would give her the grand wedding she deserves.

Interestingly, he is the one who always talks about it, while she doesn’t even dwell on it. He said she truly deserves to be celebrated.

Looking back, he thanked God for how far they have come. Though life is not yet where they want it to be, he believes their journey is only beginning.

The couple has now been married for five years and remain hopeful for greater blessings ahead.
