Doctor who collapsed after 72-hour shift buried in Port Harcourt

Dr. Oluwafemi Rotifa, a 28-year-old resident doctor at Rivers State University Teaching Hospital (RSUTH), has been buried after collapsing and passing away. Reports say he had been working for 72 hours without proper rest before the tragic incident.

He was laid to rest at the Port Harcourt cemetery on Friday, September 5, 2025, where family, friends, and colleagues gathered to mourn him.

Dr. Rotifa was a former president of the Port Harcourt University Medical Students’ Association (PUMSA) and was admired for his hard work and leadership among fellow students.

His sudden de@th has caused deep grief and outrage across Nigeria’s medical community. The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has said an autopsy will be carried out to confirm the exact cause of his passing.
