2026 WCQ: NFF should pressure FIFA to deduct three points from South Africa – Ex footballer, Ifeanyi Udeze

Former Nigerian international Ifeanyi Udeze has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to push FIFA to take three points away from South Africa due to a player eligibility issue.

South Africa currently leads Group C in the World Cup qualifiers, sitting five points above Rwanda and six ahead of Nigeria.

However, their spot may be in doubt after fielding Teboho Mokoena in a March match against Lesotho, even though he was reportedly suspended.

FIFA is still reviewing the matter, and the Lesotho Football Association has warned it will file a formal protest if Mokoena plays in Friday’s match.

On Brila FM, Udeze criticized the NFF for remaining quiet on the issue.

“I expect the NFF to already be pushing FIFA to take three points from South Africa,” Udeze said. “Even Gernot Rohr, now coaching Benin, has spoken out because it could help his team. So why is the NFF staying silent?”

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles hope South Africa drops points against Lesotho in Bloemfontein. Nigeria will host Rwanda in Uyo on Saturday, aiming to restart their qualification campaign with consecutive wins.
