Court remands 18-year-old man for allegedly r@ping two year old in Ekiti

An 18-year-old man, identified as Solomon Sunday, has been remanded by a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti, the capital of Ekiti State, following allegations of sexually assaulting a 2-year-old child.

According to Inspector Olasunkanmi Bankole, the prosecutor, the alleged incident occurred on August 24, 2025, within the Ado-Ekiti Magisterial District.

The prosecutor explained that the act violates Section 31 of the Child Rights Law of Ekiti State, 2021, which carries severe penalties for offenders. He added that there is sufficient reason to justify remanding the suspect.

Inspector Bankole also stated that Solomon Sunday is reasonably suspected to have committed the crime of rape against the toddler.

He requested the court to remand the defendant and mentioned that the case file had been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP) to obtain legal guidance.

Chief Magistrate Adefunke Anoma subsequently ordered that Solomon Sunday be held in a correctional facility. The court scheduled the next mention of the case for October 14.
