A 68-year-old woman tragically died after collapsing when she learned that her nephew had been fatally shot, allegedly by a police officer in Limpopo, South Africa.
According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the 48-year-old officer, who works at Witpoort SAPS, reportedly shot the man during a heated argument at Botsalanong village. The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
After hearing the news, the woman went to the scene and collapsed. Emergency medical responders were called, but unfortunately, she was pronounced dead on site.
Investigators are trying to determine what led to the confrontation between the police officer and the man.
Early reports suggest that the victim had gone to the officer’s home looking for him but left before finding him, returning home only after a call from his wife.
The officer has surrendered to authorities, and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating the case. Both murder and inquest cases have been opened.
