Veteran Nigerian musician Bright Chimezie has rejected the idea that smoking or drinking alcohol makes artists more creative.

The highlife legend, known for his hit song Because of English, described such claims as false and misleading.

Speaking on the CreativTea Podcast, Chimezie explained that many artists who smoke or drink are only doing it for enjoyment, not as a way to get inspired.

He noted that the belief that alcohol or smoking can fuel music ideas is completely wrong. According to him, if someone drinks or smokes, it is just for fun and has nothing to do with creativity.

Chimezie concluded by saying that real musical inspiration comes naturally and cannot be forced through alcohol or drugs.
