Brother and two other relatives k!ll his 60-year-old sister over witchcraft claim in Adamawa

The police in Adamawa State have arrested three family members accused of killing a 60-year-old woman, Dudu Umaru, over witchcraft allegations. The tragic incident happened on August 26 in Digino, Fufore Local Government Area.

According to reports, the suspects — the woman’s younger brother, his son, and her nephew — stormed her home and accused her of casting a spell on a teenage girl named Aisha.

They attacked her with sticks, leaving her badly injured. Sadly, she later died from her wounds.

Confirming the case, the state police spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, said the suspects admitted their involvement. They claimed they never intended to kill her, but only wanted to “teach her a lesson.” He revealed that apart from the assault, they also set her house on fire.

The police identified the main suspect as 50-year-old farmer, Bello Usman. During interrogation, he explained that his daughter Aisha had fallen ill, and traditional remedies pointed to Dudu as the cause.

Bello narrated that after giving his daughter a herbal mixture, she began mentioning Dudu’s name and accusing her of wanting to kill her.

Out of anger, he, along with his son and nephew, went to confront her. They beat her until she was unconscious, only to later hear that she had died.

When asked why he did not seek medical help, Bello admitted that he relied solely on traditional incantations. He confessed that he never took his daughter to a hospital.

In a tone of regret, Bello said since his arrest, he has not received any update about his daughter’s health. He added that his fear of losing her pushed him into making a terrible decision, but now he deeply regrets attacking his cousin.
