Former Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been sacked by Besiktas after the Turkish club was knocked out of the Conference League play-offs.
The 52-year-old had joined Besiktas in January, marking his first managerial job since leaving Manchester United in November 2021.
Besiktas confirmed the decision in a short statement, which came just hours after the team lost to Ineos-owned Lausanne-Sport in the play-offs.
The Turkish side exited European competition following a 2-1 aggregate defeat, including a 1-0 loss at home.
The club released a 39-word statement after a board meeting. “Our contract with manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been terminated following a decision made at the board meeting,” Besiktas said.
“Following the meeting, our chairman, Serdal Adalı, thanked Solskjaer for his services to date. We respectfully present it to the public.”
Solskjaer’s dismissal comes just after Besiktas played their first match of the new SuperLig season.
