EX-Acting Vice Chancellor Of Edo State University, Prof Dawood Egbefo, D!es Just Two Weeks After Leaving Office

Prof. Dawood Egbefo, who recently served as the Acting Vice-Chancellor of Edo State University, Iyahmo, has passed away just two weeks after stepping down from his role.

The university confirmed the sad news through its spokesperson, Amaechi Kelly Quincy, who shared a statement on the official Edo State University Facebook page.

Earlier, on August 8, 2025, Governor Monday Okpebholo approved the appointment of Prof. Victor Adetimirin Olawale as the new substantive Vice-Chancellor, succeeding Prof. Egbefo.

The cause of Prof. Egbefo’s death has not been made public. The university, however, described him as an outstanding scholar, a guiding mentor, and a capable administrator whose contributions to education will be fondly remembered.

Prof. Egbefo earned his Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD degrees in History and International Studies from the University of Ilorin.

He started his teaching career at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, and later joined Edo State University, Iyahmo, in 2017 as an Associate Professor.
