I am not contesting for any position in 2027- El-Rufai

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has made it clear that he will not be contesting for any political position in the 2027 elections.

Instead, he says his focus is on working with others to push out leaders he described as oppressors at both the state and national levels.

El-Rufai revealed this on Wednesday, August 27, in Kaduna, while addressing a group of PDP youths who recently joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC) under the leadership of Aliyu Bello.

Taking a swipe at the current administration, the former governor said Nigerians no longer need anyone to explain the failures of the government.

“This is a government that only survives on lies. Everyone knows the truth in their hearts. I am not interested in contesting for Senate or any political seat. What I want is for all of us to unite and send these oppressors packing,” he said.

El-Rufai added that his original plan after leaving office was to take a break from politics. However, he explained that the present situation in the country forced him to return—not for personal gain, but to contribute to the fight for better leadership.

“When I left office as governor of Kaduna, I just wanted to rest. But the way things have turned out, I realized we cannot fold our arms. We must all play our part to ensure good governance. That is the reason I am back in politics,” he explained.
