Former U.S. President Donald Trump has reacted to the engagement of pop star Taylor Swift and NFL player Travis Kelce.
The couple announced the news on Tuesday, August 26, through a joint Instagram post, which quickly went viral and captured worldwide attention.
During a Cabinet meeting, a reporter interrupted to bring up the trending story, saying that the biggest pop culture news of the year had just broken.
Trump responded by wishing the couple well. He said he thinks Kelce is a great player and a good person, while also describing Swift as terrific. He ended by saying he wished them the best of luck.
His kind words came as a surprise to many because Trump has publicly criticized Swift several times in the past. In September 2024, after Swift endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris, Trump wrote on Truth Social, “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” Swift had also endorsed Joe Biden during the 2020 election.
Earlier in May 2025, Trump again mocked the singer, saying she was “no longer hot.” He posted that since he declared he hated her, she had lost her appeal.
