Nollywood actress Bimbo Akintola has shared her thoughts on cheating and polygamy in Nigerian society, saying these behaviors are unlikely to disappear.
During a podcast with fellow actress Ayo Adesanya, she claimed that a very large number of Nigerian men are unfaithful, estimating the figure between 90 and 99 percent.
The 55-year-old actress explained that many men grow up in environments where cheating is considered normal, which influences their behavior in relationships.
She also mentioned that some men learn this behavior from their fathers, who may have multiple partners or girlfriends, making it a generational habit.
Akintola believes that because of this deep-rooted cultural influence, women should not always expect complete loyalty from men.
She added, “I don’t know where this idea of fidelity in Africa came from. Your father cheats, your grandfather cheated, my father has two wives.
I can’t tell you whether to stay or leave, but if you leave one and move to another, the same problem exists. Ninety percent of men cheat—it’s part of who they are. I’m not excusing it; I’m just being realistic.”
