2027: PDP Governors In Closed-Door Meeting

Governors elected on the platform of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are currently holding a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Gusau, Zamfara State.

Although the details of the agenda have not been made public, the meeting is believed to focus on national issues, the party’s internal strategy, and preparations for the 2027 general elections.

The governors are also expected to discuss the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) convention, scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, on November 15 and 16, 2025.

This meeting comes at a time when political activities are heating up across Nigeria, with major parties building their structures and positioning themselves for the next electoral cycle.

For the PDP, which has not produced a president since it lost power to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2015, unity has remained a major challenge. The upcoming NEC convention is expected to help resolve divisions within the party and set the tone for its campaign machinery.

Observers believe the choice of Zamfara as the meeting venue is strategic, as the PDP currently controls only a few states in the northwest. Strengthening its base in the region is considered vital for the party’s return to national influence.

The PDP Governors’ Forum, which serves as a coordinating body for PDP governors, continues to play a crucial role in shaping the party’s policies and direction. Its decisions often influence outcomes at the national level, especially during times of internal crisis.

As the meeting progresses, party members and Nigerians are eagerly waiting for the communique that will be released at the end of the session.
