Police in North West, South Africa, have arrested 26-year-old Mfana Ngwenya after he allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend, Kgaugelo Nnonu Morata, and later attacked his current girlfriend in a stabbing incident.
According to reports, Ngwenya stabbed his ex-girlfriend to death outside a tavern in Hammanskraal, Gauteng, on the morning of Thursday, August 21, 2025. He then posted a video of her body on social media.
After the first attack, he shared another video admitting to the killing and tried to justify his actions.
Police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh said, “The suspect is accused of murdering his 20-year-old ex-girlfriend, Kgaugelo Marota, and attempting to kill his 20-year-old current partner.”
The Acting Provincial Commissioner of Police in North West, Major General Patrick Asaneng, commended officers for their prompt response.
Authorities confirmed that Marota’s body was found at a tavern in Maubane village on Thursday, August 21. She had multiple stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency responders.
Investigators revealed that after killing Marota, Ngwenya went to his home and allegedly stabbed his current girlfriend several times.
“The current girlfriend was rushed to a nearby hospital and is receiving treatment. The suspect also shared the reasons for his actions on social media,” added Myburgh.
Ngwenya was arrested early Friday morning in Carousel View, near Maubane.
In a Facebook post, he wrote, “They may judge me, but you and I know the truth. You ruined us. As I posted everything on the app, it will prove that. RIP. I promised you till death do us apart after I fought for your life. Will forever love you, Mmamogashwa.”
He is set to appear in Temba Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 25, facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
