Oseloka Obi, son of Nigerian politician Peter Obi, has spoken up after photos of him with London-based Nigerian-British man, Kent Okwesa, went viral online.
The photos, which circulated widely on Wednesday, August 2025, showed Oseloka dining with Okwesa in a restaurant, sparking different rumors on social media.
Responding to the online buzz, Oseloka issued a statement explaining that his work in theatre and filmmaking exposes him to people from different backgrounds, identities, and sexual orientations.
In his statement, he stressed that while gossip often follows those linked to public figures, people must understand that he is not the one in politics—his father is. According to him, assuming his personal life or friendships are political statements is childish and misleading.
Oseloka pointed out that this is not the first time his photos have been twisted into false stories by those trying to attack his father. He described the act as nothing more than gossip and misrepresentation.
He explained that as an actor, he often works with diverse people and sometimes plays roles very different from his real self. However, some critics use these associations or acting roles to spread lies about him and his family.
Oseloka added that, unlike many children of Nigerian politicians, he has never relied on his father’s wealth or influence to succeed. Instead, he is pursuing his own career path in the creative industry, and his father fully supports him even though it’s not the career he expected.
He further stressed that Nigeria faces bigger challenges than idle rumors about him. Issues like insecurity, poverty, poor healthcare, collapsing infrastructure, and corruption should be the focus of attention, not gossip about who he is seen with.
