None of my political aides earns less than ₦1m monthly — Gov Umo Eno

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has addressed concerns about the salaries of his political aides, stating that none of his Personal Assistants earn less than one million naira every month.

During a Town Square Meeting in Ibiaku Ntok Okpo with residents of Ikono and Ini Federal Constituency, Governor Eno expressed disappointment at some aides complaining about their earnings.

He praised his Personal Assistant on Protocol, Blessed Essien, for using part of his salary to fund a borehole project for his community. As a result of this initiative, Governor Eno promoted Essien to the position of Special Assistant on Public Works.

Comparing Essien’s actions with other appointees, he noted that while Essien positively impacted his community, some others with similar opportunities have not engaged meaningfully with theirs.

Governor Eno clarified that no Personal Assistant earns less than one million naira monthly and said it is misleading to describe this as a “stipend.” He stressed that all political appointees should be transparent and accountable in their roles.

The Governor also directed the Secretary to the State Government to compile and publish a list of all political appointees by local government area in a national newspaper.

He encouraged constituents to ask their PAs, SAs, SSAs, and Commissioners what they have done for their communities. Governor Eno concluded by reaffirming that performance and responsibility in public office are crucial, highlighting that Essien’s promotion was due to the visible impact of his work.
