‘I would have been suicide bomber, oil thief if not for music’ – Burna Boy

Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, Damini Ogulu, popularly known as Burna Boy, has revealed what his life could have been like if he never found music.

The Afro-fusion star admitted during a chat with one of his fans that he could have easily ended up as a suicide bomber, an oil thief, or even a prostitute if music had not given him a purpose.

When asked directly about what he would have done without music, Burna Boy explained that there were many paths he could have taken. He mentioned basketball, fraud, oil theft, or becoming a suicide bomber, stressing that anything could have been possible.

Despite this shocking confession, Burna Boy continues to make global history through music. His latest collaboration with American rapper Gunna, titled WGFT, debuted at number 96 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart this week. That makes it his seventh career entry on the chart.

He has also become the first African artist to debut a song on the Billboard Hot 100 in five straight years — 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024, and now 2025. This consistency shows just how far music has taken him and why he calls it his true saving grace.
