Popular Ghanaian musician Shatta Wale has been detained in Accra over investigations into his yellow 2019 Lamborghini Urus, which U.S. authorities say is tied to a $4 million fraud case. The luxury car was seized earlier this month at the request of the FBI and U.S. Justice Department.
According to Ghana’s Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), the car was linked to convicted fraudster Nana Kwabena Amuah, who is serving seven years in a U.S. prison. Investigators believe the Lamborghini was bought with proceeds of crime, but Shatta Wale insists he has no connection to Amuah. He explained that he was only a third-party owner of the vehicle, purchased for about $150,000, and does not know who shipped it into Ghana.
After being questioned, Shatta Wale was granted bail set at 10 million Ghanaian cedis, though EOCO confirmed he will remain in custody until the bail conditions are verified. Meanwhile, a crowd of fans gathered outside EOCO’s office in Accra to show support for the musician, while his management urged the public to stay calm and avoid speculation as his legal team works on the case.
The Lamborghini is expected to be returned to the United States to assist in compensating Amuah’s victims. Authorities say the investigation is part of a broader crackdown on international fraud networks that have scammed Americans through schemes such as romance fraud and phishing attacks.
For now, Shatta Wale maintains his innocence and says he is fully cooperating with investigators as the case unfolds.
