$125m facility from Islamic Development Bank will tackle erosion menace – Abia monarch

The Chairman of Abia State Council of Traditional Rulers, Eze Linus Nto Mbah, has praised Governor Alex Otti for securing a $125 million loan from the Islamic Development Bank.

He noted that the funding for the Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project will bring massive growth to the state.

He explained that the facility will also help in tackling erosion, which has been destroying homes, farmlands, and economic trees in several communities.

The monarch made his remarks while reacting to President Bola Tinubu’s approval of the $125 million financing.

Eze Mbah thanked President Tinubu for granting the approval and said the funds will be used to construct about 126 kilometres of roads in Aba and 35.57 kilometres in Umuahia. He added that the project will also bring relief to areas affected by erosion.

He expressed hope that the Governor’s infrastructure drive will shorten travel time, create jobs for residents, and help communities recover lands that were lost to erosion.

The monarch also commended Governor Otti’s leadership, saying his administration had earned the trust of international development partners, which made the loan possible.

He further highlighted that the project is expected to create more than 3,000 jobs during its execution, which will help reduce unemployment in the state.
