UNIZIK bans final-year students from organizing final examination signing out ceremonies

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has announced a ban on final-year students organizing signing-out celebrations after their last exams.

In most Nigerian schools, graduating students usually hold signing-out parades to mark the completion of their final examinations.

However, in a statement released on Tuesday, August 20, and signed by the Registrar, Dr. Chinenye Okeke, the university explained that the celebrations often lead to violence, disorder, and disruption of academic activities, which prompted the immediate ban.

The school management made it clear that all forms of signing-out activities have been completely and indefinitely prohibited within the campus, stressing that the decision was necessary to prevent a repeat of past incidents linked to such events.

The statement further warned that any student found participating in signing-out activities will face disciplinary action, including possible suspension.

Outsiders who attempt to join or encourage the banned activities could also be arrested and prosecuted for disturbing public peace.

Dr. Okeke assured students that the university remains dedicated to providing a safe and secure learning environment and will not allow any activity that threatens this goal.

The school also advised students to concentrate on their academics and to report any cases of misconduct or safety threats to the appropriate authorities for quick intervention.
