Olympic athlete, Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk banned for four years for testosterone doping

Ukrainian Olympic athlete Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk has been banned from competition for four years after testing positive for testosterone metabolites. The test, collected on December 7, 2024, was done out of competition.

Bekh-Romanchuk, 30, has competed in three Olympic Games and has won silver medals in both the long jump and triple jump at the World Championships. She also claimed gold at the 2022 European Championships and the 2023 European Games.

The Athletics Integrity Unit confirmed her suspension but noted that she denied taking testosterone and could not explain why its metabolites appeared in her sample.

She expressed her disagreement with the AIU decision and said she is taking a break from athletics to focus on her family and health.

On Instagram, Bekh-Romanchuk stated that she refused to admit guilt, stressing her honesty and personal dignity.

She explained that the stress of defending her reputation while managing her personal life had become exhausting, both emotionally and physically.

The AIU confirmed that her four-year ban officially started on May 13, the day she was provisionally suspended.
