A Magistrate Court in Ilorin, Kwara State, on Tuesday convicted Samson Ayadi for attacking a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) patrol team.
Samson faced a four-count charge before Magistrate I.Y. Jimade.
The FRSC accused him of blocking their Oloru unit patrol team on the Ilorin-Jebba highway near Molete junction on July 20, 2024.
According to the FRSC’s legal officer, Estine Okoro, the driver stopped his Toyota Sienna, gathered a crowd, and encouraged them to attack the patrol team.
He also reportedly climbed into the patrol vehicle to take an impounded motorcycle, whose rider had previously removed his clothes in defiance.
Three witnesses gave evidence for the prosecution, while Samson was the only witness for the defense.
The court dismissed the defense’s earlier “no case” claim, keeping only one charge for consideration.
After reviewing all evidence and exhibits, the magistrate concluded that the prosecution had proved the case beyond reasonable doubt.
Samson was sentenced to six months in prison or a N20,000 fine for criminal intimidation; three months or N30,000 for assault; three months or N10,000 for inciting disturbance; and six months or N30,000 for resisting or obstructing a public officer on duty.
