A man was put to death in public in southern Iran on Tuesday, August 19, after being found guilty of killing four people, according to state news reports.

The judiciary’s news site, Mizan, confirmed that the execution took place in Beyram, Fars Province, where the man was hanged before the public after being convicted of the crime.

In Iran, crimes like murder and rape carry the death penalty. Human rights groups, including Amnesty International, note that Iran ranks second in the world for carrying out the most executions, after China.

According to Mizan, the man and his wife killed a mother and her three children during a robbery in October 2024.

Both were sentenced to death in February 2025, and the supreme court upheld the ruling in April of the same year.

Mizan added that the wife’s execution will happen inside prison, but no date has been provided yet.
