The Kogi State Police have arrested a man named Jato Alhaji Jaye for allegedly killing his 11-year-old son in the Agbaja area of Oworo land, Lokoja Local Government Area.
According to sources who spoke to security analyst Zagazola Makama, the boy’s uncle, Zuberu Adamu, reported on August 19, 2025, that his sister, Adama Adamu, had not seen her son, Buhari Jato, since he went grazing with his father on August 17.
A search was quickly organized, and the boy’s lifeless body was found in the bush.
The father was reportedly caught at the scene trying to bury the child to hide the crime.
Police officers from Division ‘B’ in Lokoja arrived, documented the scene with photographs, arrested the suspect, and released the body to the family so it could be buried according to Islamic traditions.
During questioning, the father allegedly admitted that he killed his son because the boy “offended him” while they were tending animals together.
He reportedly confessed to using a Fulani stick to flog the boy, which led to the child’s death.
The police said the case will soon be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Lokoja for further investigation.
