Kaduna court remands man for allegedly beating his friend to coma over a woman

A Kaduna Magistrates Court has remanded 26-year-old Usman Aliyu after he was accused of beating his friend into a coma during an argument over a woman. Aliyu, who lives in Ungwan Sarki, Kaduna, pleaded not guilty to the assault charge.

The prosecution, represented by Inspector Chidi Leo, requested that Aliyu be kept in custody while the case continues, and Magistrate Ibrahim Emmanuel approved the request. The court set the next hearing for September 11, when Aliyu will apply for bail.

The incident reportedly happened on August 14 around 4 p.m. in Malali, Kaduna. Aliyu, allegedly intoxicated, went to his friend Shuaibu Hassan’s home carrying a cutlass. During a quarrel over a woman, Aliyu allegedly attacked Hassan, leaving him severely injured.

Hassan is now in critical condition in the hospital, and his survival remains uncertain. The alleged offence violates Section 221 of the Kaduna State Penal Code, 2017, which covers assault and causing grievous harm.
