LP and ADC are de@d in Anambra state – Gov Soludo

Governor Charles Soludo has said that the recent bye-election in Anambra State shows that Labour Party (LP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have lost all relevance in the state.

Speaking on Sunday, August 17, at a victory celebration in Nanka, Soludo praised the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for its success in the election and described LP and ADC as “dead” parties in Anambra.

He also took a swipe at former governor Peter Obi, who supported ADC candidates, stressing that the party does not exist in the state. Soludo’s comments were met with cheers from APGA members dressed in outfits decorated with the party’s cock symbol.

The governor explained that ADC wanted to use the election to test its popularity but the people rejected them, giving APGA more than 75% of the votes. He insisted that APGA remains the true movement of the people in Anambra.

Peter Obi, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, has been working with ADC in a coalition to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 election. However, Soludo has openly opposed Obi’s ambition.

The bye-election was held by INEC for Anambra South Senatorial District following the death of Senator Ifeanyi Ubah in July 2024.

APGA’s Emmanuel Nwachukwu won the contest with 90,408 votes, far ahead of APC’s Azuka Okwuosa with 19,847 votes and ADC’s Donald Amangbo, who got 2,889 votes.
