How market now – Presidency mocks Atiku, Obi over bye-elections

The Presidency has mocked opposition leaders, Atiku Abubakar of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and former Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi, after the All Progressives Congress (APC) claimed victory in last Saturday’s bye-elections.

Presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga took to his X account on Monday morning, where he posted a short but sarcastic message: “How is the market now?” along with a photo of Atiku, Obi, and members of the ADC.

Although he did not directly mention any names, it was clear the remark was directed at opposition parties who lost out in the just-concluded polls.

The bye-elections were conducted to replace lawmakers who either passed away or resigned following the 2023 general elections.

The APC emerged the biggest winner, securing 12 out of the 16 available seats in the August 2025 bye-elections.

Seats were contested across 12 states, though some reports added Zamfara as the 13th state. The Zamfara contest was later declared inconclusive.

Reports confirmed that APC won 12 seats, APGA secured 2, PDP managed to win 1, while NNPP took 1. The Zamfara result remains pending due to the inconclusive outcome.
