Bye-election: Peter Obi, El-Rufai hiding over loss, yet to wish IBB happy birthday – Omokri

A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has taken a swipe at Labour Party’s Peter Obi and former Kaduna governor, Nasir El-Rufai, following their parties’ defeat in last Saturday’s bye-elections in their respective states.

Omokri claimed that both Obi and El-Rufai were still struggling to recover from the shock of the election results and had failed to congratulate former military leader, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), on his birthday.

Sharing his thoughts on X (formerly Twitter), Omokri mocked the duo, saying Nigerians should expect them to soon allege that the elections were rigged.

According to him, “Neither Obi nor El-Rufai has recovered enough to wish General Babangida a happy 84th birthday. These are people who never failed to celebrate IBB before, but today, silence. This loss must have really hit them hard.”

He added that Obi had not posted anything online since the bye-election results, while El-Rufai had gone completely quiet. Omokri sarcastically described the two as “Tom and Jerry,” stressing that the defeat had humbled them.

He concluded by predicting that once they regain their voice, both Obi and El-Rufai would return with the usual allegations of rigging and manipulation, portraying themselves as victims of electoral fraud.
