Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has revealed that his government has faced pushback for refusing to use security votes.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, Adeleke confirmed that all security-related spending in Osun is done through proper budget channels.
He explained, “We don’t have security votes like many Nigerians think. I face opposition for this, but I stick to the rule, no matter the cost.”
All money for security is spent according to public finance laws, with no hidden funds or slush accounts.
Security spending in the state includes support for law enforcement agencies, dealing with local conflicts, peace-building programs, and maintaining the Amotekun security network.
All expenditures are approved through official processes, including memos and standard government payment rules.
The policy helps conserve money for important projects like infrastructure, agriculture, and health, rather than unrestricted security votes.
Salaries, pensions, and state debts are carefully managed alongside infrastructure development, keeping a balance between human resources and projects.
A special project account was also created to manage extra funds from the Federation Account Allocation Committee (FAAC), ensuring ongoing projects are completed.
Governor Adeleke expressed confidence that issues with seized local government funds would be resolved and assured citizens that his government will continue to complete development projects on time.
