During the ongoing by-election in Kano State, security agents have arrested hundreds of political thugs carrying weapons.

The Kano State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ambassador Abdu Zango, told reporters that the thugs were heading towards Bagwai, where voting was in progress, when the authorities intercepted them.

He also mentioned that in Shanono, some thugs almost interrupted the delivery of election materials.

Zango explained that security personnel had to step in to bring the situation back under control.

Shanono has a history of election-related violence, but thanks to the strong presence of security forces, the by-election is proceeding without major disruptions.
