Ubi Franklin breaks silence on allegedly ‘stealing’ watch at Davido’s wedding

Music executive Ubi Franklin has broken his silence after being accused of stealing a luxury wristwatch during his trip to Miami, USA, for Davido’s wedding over the weekend. The rumours started spreading on social media on Wednesday after a blog reported the story.

In a post on his X account, Franklin described the claims as false and misleading, insisting that the allegations linking him to theft were completely untrue.

He explained that he had just returned from his friend’s wedding and was now preparing for his sister’s funeral this coming weekend. Despite going through a very emotional time, he felt the need to speak out to clarify what happened.

Franklin said that while in Miami, a man named Benny approached him to sell a wristwatch. After checking the watch and confirming its previous ownership, he decided not to buy it to avoid any problems and informed Benny of his decision.

During the wedding church service, Benny sent another wristwatch to him through his brother. This was a different piece that Franklin liked, so he paid for it in full.

Because of the busy nature of the wedding, Franklin ended up holding both watches and chose to wear the one he had purchased.

After the event, he had to leave Miami urgently to finalise arrangements for his sister’s funeral. While on the plane, Benny reached out to him about the first watch he had already declined to buy.

Franklin stated clearly that he is not a thief and has never stolen anything from anyone. He emphasised that the wristwatch in his possession was bought legally and paid for in full.

He also pointed out that Benny himself had publicly denied the theft rumour earlier in the day, yet the false story continued to circulate online.
