‘They are very slow’ — Sudan Striker mocks Home based Super Eagles after 4-0 thrashing

Sudan striker Abdel Raouf Yagoub has openly criticized Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles after their heavy defeat in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) group stage.

The Nigerian side, led by Kwesi Appiah, suffered a 4-0 loss to Sudan at the Amman Stadium in Zanzibar on Tuesday, August 12. The match revealed several weaknesses in the Nigerian team’s play and defensive structure.

Sudan opened the scoring in the 25th minute when Yagoub’s strike deflected off Leonard Ngenege into the net. Just before halftime, Walieldin Khdir doubled the lead from the penalty spot. Yagoub then scored twice more in the second half to seal a convincing win for his team.

Speaking after the game, Yagoub did not hold back in his assessment. He said the Nigerian team was too slow on the ball, poor in recovering possession, and made several defensive mistakes.

He explained that their coach instructed them to use quick passing and deliver the ball into the penalty box, a tactic that worked perfectly against Nigeria’s sluggish defense.

The victory pushed Sudan to the top of Group D with four points from three matches. They now prepare for their final group game against defending champions Senegal, where even a draw will be enough to secure a quarter-final spot.
