Pastor Kumuyi lashes out at church members asking him to choose a successor and resign as General Overseer of Deeper Life Church

Pastor William Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, has warned members against pressuring him to pick a successor, stressing that no one can make him step down.

During a recent Bible study session, the 83-year-old pastor shared how a member kept talking about appointing a successor. At one point, he asked the audience, “Are you tired of me?” and the congregation loudly responded, “Nooo.”

He also addressed remarks by a young preacher who twice insisted that leadership cannot exist without a successor. Kumuyi said, “That’s too much, especially while I am still active. God will provide a successor at the right time.”

Using biblical examples, he made it clear that no member of the church should try to control him. He added, “Even my wife cannot dictate this because I lead my home. I will stand firm, and no one can pressure me.”

He warned that attempts to weaken his conviction will only strengthen his resolve. “Don’t try to kill my conviction. The more you resist, the more I will stand my ground until the end,” he said.

Kumuyi noted that many gifted members are allowed to preach, but he stressed that succession is in God’s hands. “If God allows me to serve actively at this age, asking for a successor feels like you are tired of me and don’t want me around,” he said.

He concluded firmly, saying, “When God chooses a successor, it will be someone He favors. Don’t try to push me aside, even if you think you can.”
