Sudan coach Kwesi Appiah has explained why his team defeated Nigeria 4-0 in the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) group stage on Tuesday.

Appiah’s side eliminated the Super Eagles B team with a strong performance, which included an own goal from Leonard Ngenge, a goal from Walieldin Khedr, and a brace from Abdel Raouf.

This win puts Sudan at the top of Group D with four points from two matches. They will face Senegal in their final group game to decide who tops the group.

Speaking after the match, Appiah said his team focused on absorbing Nigeria’s early pressure and hitting them on counter-attacks.

“We knew the first 20 minutes would be tough, so we had to soak up the pressure and play on the break. Today, our level was much better than our previous game against Congo,” he said.
