Turkey: Insult to Muslims – Outrage as mosque is renamed after Osimhen

Galatasaray manager Okan Buruk has confirmed that Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen will be available for Friday’s match against Karagumruk, despite a brewing controversy over a mosque’s name change.

Osimhen had missed the 3-0 victory over Gaziantep on Saturday because he was not yet match-ready.

Buruk explained that the 26-year-old needed more time to fully recover his fitness.

The Super Eagles star returned late to pre-season training after lengthy transfer talks between Napoli and Galatasaray delayed his move.

However, just days after arriving in Turkey, Osimhen’s name became linked to a religious dispute.

The Bulut Mosque in Konya was suddenly listed on Google Maps as “Victor Osimhen Mosque,” which upset many worshippers.

Local resident Zeki Yaylacı criticized the change, calling it disrespectful. He said, “Naming a non-Muslim and mocking a holy place is unacceptable. It insults Muslims, mosque communities, and the sanctity of mosques.”

Evidence suggests Osimhen had nothing to do with the change. The renaming appears to be the result of false edits made by users on Google Maps.
