Lagos police arrest syndicate defrauding Nigerians through fake visa promises

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested four people accused of running a visa scam that defrauded more than 100 Nigerians, costing victims over ₦500 million.

Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh confirmed the arrest on Monday, August 11, stating that the suspects, aged between 23 and 36, were picked up on July 16 by officers from the Ago-Okota Police Division.

Investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) revealed that the suspects, who worked for an educational consultancy, pretended to arrange Canadian and Australian work visas for unsuspecting clients.

According to Jimoh, the group fraudulently collected more than ₦500 million from over 100 people under the false promise of securing these visas.

The suspects remain in custody and will be charged in court after investigations are concluded. Police say efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the syndicate who are still at large.
