A terrible accident happened in the Abattoir area of Katsina city, where a newly married couple and three other people lost their lives.

The accident took place on Saturday, August 9, 2025, on the Kurfi-Katsina road.

The couple who died were Abdulsalami Yusuf Kankara, 37, and his wife, Malama Zainab. They were coming back from Kurfi Local Government Area after visiting another couple who had lost a baby.

Abdulsalami’s brother, Aminu Yusuf Kankara, said their car collided with a motorcycle carrying three people.

“Those on the motorcycle and Abdulsalami’s wife died immediately. Abdulsalami passed away later at the hospital,” Aminu said.

Witnesses told Daily Trust that the motorcyclist, who had two passengers, suddenly moved into the car’s path, causing the crash. All three people on the motorcycle and one person in the car died at the scene.

Three others in the car were taken to the hospital. Abdulsalami later died from his injuries.

Friends and family described Abdulsalami as a kind and good man. He and his wife had only been married for a few months.
