Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that if Nigerians elect him as President in 2027, he will immediately work to amend the nation’s constitution.
Speaking on an X space program called ‘Weekend Politics’ on Friday, Amaechi said he would also put a quick end to corruption in the country within one month or step down from office.
Amaechi explained that one of his first changes would be replacing the current system of indigeneship with citizenship in the constitution. He stressed that if he failed to wipe out corruption in his first month as President, he would resign.
The former Rivers State governor also challenged the current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to walk publicly through the streets of Port Harcourt to see who is truly loved by the people and who is in better health.
He accused certain powerful individuals in Nigeria of frequently visiting the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to steal public funds. According to him, if such stolen resources were used to boost security and improve the economy, Nigeria’s situation would be far better.
Amaechi did not hold back in criticizing the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Mahmood Yakubu, describing him as the worst electoral chief in Nigeria’s history.
He also made it clear that, if elected, he would not bring back fuel subsidies. Instead, he promised to ensure that the funds saved from subsidy removal go directly into the hands of ordinary Nigerians, not the wealthy elite.
