Eight people who were being held at the police station in Gona, Bauchi State, escaped from custody in the early hours of Friday, August 8, 2025.
Security expert Zagazola Makama revealed on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday that the detainees managed to break free from their cell at about 12:20 a.m.
According to Makama, the suspects forced open a nearby exit door and ran off to an unknown destination.
In response, police quickly sent out rapid response patrol units and surveillance teams to track down the fugitives.
Makama further disclosed that one of the suspects, named Abdullahi Haliru, has been caught and taken back into custody.
Police have issued alerts across the area to help capture the other seven escapees, and the manhunt is still ongoing.
