Abuse of State Power – Peter Obi Slams Nigerian Police Over Arrest of Sowore

Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has expressed strong disapproval of the arrest of activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore. Obi believes the Nigerian Police misused their authority by detaining someone who showed up willingly at their headquarters in Abuja.

Taking to social media platform X on Friday morning, Obi demanded Sowore’s immediate release. He questioned the reasoning behind detaining a citizen who did not resist or avoid the invitation but showed up in good faith.

Obi said he was troubled by how law enforcement handled the situation. He pointed out that the police had not provided any specific or credible charges to justify Sowore’s arrest, leaving many wondering about the true motive behind his detention.

He described the situation as unfair and called it a clear abuse of power. According to him, holding someone without stating the legal grounds for their arrest goes against justice and sets a dangerous example.

Obi warned that if Sowore is not released quickly, the incident could further damage public trust in the Nigerian police and other law enforcement institutions. He stressed the importance of accountability and transparency in upholding the rule of law.
