A man in Lagos State has been taken to court after being accused of beating his wife only four days after she gave birth to their child. The incident reportedly happened last week, and although the man’s name has not been shared publicly, his arrest has drawn wide attention.
Popular actress Omosalewa Fafowora shared a video online showing the moment police officers arrived at the couple’s home to arrest him. The clip quickly spread, prompting many to call for justice. Shortly after, the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) confirmed the arrest and said the case was being handled seriously.
In an update shared by the DSVA on August 7, it was revealed that the suspect was arraigned on Monday, August 4. The court has now adjourned the matter to August 11, 2025, while the suspect remains in custody until the next hearing.
The accused man appeared before Magistrate Mobolaji O. Tanimola at the Lagos State Magistrate Court in Ogba. He is facing two charges: one for assault causing harm and another for behavior likely to cause a breach of peace. These charges are based on Sections 170 and 168(d) of the Lagos State Criminal Law of 2015.
The Lagos State Government has restated its zero tolerance for abuse in any form. Through the DSVA, the government promised that survivors of domestic or sexual violence will continue to receive justice, protection, and full support.
The agency also expressed appreciation to members of the public for staying alert and speaking out. They ended their message with a strong reminder: if you see something wrong, don’t stay silent—report it.
