Heung-Min Son has brought his time at Tottenham Hotspur to an end after a decade, completing a transfer to Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC. The move, which cost LAFC over £20 million, sets a new record for the MLS.
The South Korean international had already hinted at his exit during a press conference ahead of a pre-season friendly between Tottenham and Newcastle in his home country. That match marked his final appearance for the club he has called home since 2015.
Taking to Instagram, Son shared a heartfelt goodbye message with Spurs supporters. He admitted he didn’t know how to express the emotions he was feeling, describing it as one of the hardest decisions of his life.
He looked back on his early days at the club, remembering how he arrived in London without knowing the language or the city. Despite that, he said fans welcomed him warmly and believed in him, standing by him through every high and low.
Son reflected on his rise from a young dreamer from Korea to becoming a key part of Tottenham’s history. He said North London would always hold a special place in his heart, and he thanked the club and fans for helping him live out his dreams.
He also highlighted personal milestones, like forming lifelong friendships, becoming a godfather, and earning the honour of captaining the team. He emphasized how deeply connected he felt to the club and how difficult it was to walk away.
Son stated that he wanted to leave the club only on the best terms—on his own terms—after giving his all and fulfilling his part of the journey with pride.
During his time at Spurs, Son became one of the club’s greatest players. He is now the fourth-highest scorer in the club’s history, behind only Harry Kane, Jimmy Greaves, and Bobby Smith.
In total, he recorded 173 goals and 101 assists in all competitions. In the Premier League alone, he played 333 matches, scoring 127 goals and providing 27 assists.
As he begins a new chapter in the United States with LAFC, Son’s legacy at Tottenham remains strong. His passion, loyalty, and unforgettable moments will live on in the hearts of Spurs fans worldwide.
